Computer Science. Created, simulated, or carried on by means of a computer or computer network.

as·sis·tant n.

One that assists; a helper.

I am often asked "what is a virtual assistant?" and I am equally often hard pressed to give an explanation in less than a couple of paragraphs. The closest thing I can get to a one sentence answer is this:

Providing business support solutions to small businesses and individuals, in a virtual environment on a contractual basis.

When asked "do I need a virtual assistant?", I reply with the following:

  • Are you short on staff and equipment to do your dictation transcription (medical or otherwise)?
  • Are you spending too much time handling office duties instead of using the skills that started your business?
  • Do you have a few things that could be done by an assistant, but can't justify hiring a full time staff person to do them?
  • Do you ever wish you had someone who could spend just a few hours getting you organized?
  • Do projects come up that become emergencies and you spend long hours getting them completed or pay staff overtime to do them?
  • Are you short on office space and/or equipment?
  • Do you travel and struggle to make car and hotel arrangements on the fly?

If you answered yes to even one of the above, then you could benefit from having your own personal virtual assistant.
